The Premier league can do more.

I am only targeting the premier league because they could do a lot more than just being seen to be helping, I’m not going into the why or how because I’m no politician and these are just my thoughts, it's a terrible situation and I really do feel for all those affected.

If you are easily offended, then do not read any further.

You have been warned.

I personally don't think many people who have lost their homes, or members of their family and livelihoods, are going to somehow feel any comfort, or feel they are being helped by seeing a football player draped in the Ukrainian flag, the flag of their country which is currently being slowly destroyed.

I thought it a bit embarrassing because I’m thinking “here we go again”, typical premier league football showing plenty, but doing absolutely sweet F A meaningful about it.

Actually, it could be said about all campaigns they have.

They have the badges, the signs, posters, banners and the slogans, they have the t-shirts the hats and of course, they have the kneeling down and the flags, they spend thousands spouting off and faffing about, but they take NO ACTION whatsoever.

What good will it do?

This weekend the premier league say they are showing support but…

What good is it going to do the people of Ukraine by captains wearing blue and yellow armbands?

What good is it going to do the people of Ukraine by players having a “moment of reflection and solidarity” before games?

What good is it going to do the people of Ukraine by having “Football stands together” on the big screens at games?

It’s going to mean absolutely jack shit to someone who has lost everything they own and are fearful for their lives.

Do they think people don't see the news?

They come out with their usual drivel like “we are making people aware of what’s happening”.

I’m sure the whole world knows by now what is happening in Ukraine, and I’m also pretty sure none of us needs reminding everywhere we look at how horrific it is, the news coverage makes sure of that, and rightly so.

I would go as far as to say that the Ukrainian people KNOW that we support them, they KNOW there is solidarity here, and I applaud everyone on the streets who are going out of their way doing all they can to help.

But don’t let me go off track here, because as I said earlier, I’m targeting the premier league.

You don’t get results by just talking or nodding one’s head in approval, it’s about taking action.

Is there an elephant in the room?

One question people maybe avoiding to ask is…

Why aren’t the Ukrainian footballers over here rushing off to sign up to the army to defend their country when people who are less fortunate are joining without batting an eyelid?

Not judging, just asking.

I don’t know the exact figures, but there are roughly 550 premiership players, I’m sure nearly all of them could donate at least on average £1000 to the Ukraine effort.

There’s just over half a million quid straight away.

Perhaps the players on over £200,000 a week or those on more like £300,000 a week could possibly spare a few more coppers for the pot, or is that asking for a bit too much?

Could Premiership clubs help more?

And as for the clubs themselves, well, they could do their little bit by donating a small sum couldn’t they?

I mean, not too much, because we wouldn’t want them to go skint, and not be able to afford the wages for the players who run through brick walls for them every week do we?

I might be wrong, and you might disagree, but the premier league can do a lot more.

Don't be premiership pretenders, do something meaningful.

I think the money players and clubs could generate, would do a lot more good and be a lot more useful than wearing bloody armbands and t-shirts, or having a flag draped over the shoulders.

They could spread it to the Championship, or is that a bit too much to ask for?
