A £245,000 Horse Race Betting System?

The email I sent last week showing you how one punter betting on races at Wolverhampton, won £245,000 in one day, by going through the card, the articles can be found in the Racing Post archive posts.

The system/method he used was...

Rule 1...

Only look at horses at the top end of the betting market.

Rule 2...

Pick the horse with the name you like best.

That's it.

There you go, a free system for you and, proof that it works.

So, I thought it may be an idea to ask people if they knew of any "similar" systems/methods for selections to place a bet on.

"The one with the red hood"... "the grey one"..." the one with the plated tail"... "the jockey wearing blue silks", you get the idea.

As always, the response was brilliant, here are some of the replies and perhaps they may jog you to add your own.

Bob

Hi Paul
Following your musings with interest. My mother always used to back horses
with "Star" in their name, I generally back "Bob's" and always back horses
trained by the first trainer's horsebox I see on the way to the races-
strangely that has proved profitable!

Fredrick

My dad is of the opinion that any white colored horse is going to win,
and he seems to be often right.

Andrew

Yeh! Bet on the horse with the biggest feet in heavy ground.

Michael

Hi Paul, on the subject of horse selection, 6 or 7 years ago I placed a 50 pence lucky 15, all the horses had a mm double barreled name, my initials, 3 winners, 4th horse came 2nd,(it was a win bet), I picked up £960. A joyous day, not my usual selection method, but mm horses get my attention.

Robert

Hi paul, Reference the big winner on names, call me old fashioned but i always pick the one with four legs.

Bill

Hi Paul, I usually back the 3 legged donkey carrying 18 stone.
Cheers Bill.

Steve

Hi Paul, 421 system I use on occasions with the view if a horse has a 4 then 2 on last runs it is prime to strike next time out. I have no data to support this though !!
Cheers
Steve

Hi Paul, On the subject of picking fads.  I know a couple of guys who
always back a horse that is sharing second in the betting, regardless of
price or type of race. They tell me it works out well and over time has
always seen a profit. I myself pick what catches my eye. Could be any price
or donkey.
Most lose, but I've had some good priced winners too. The good thing about
it is, It gives me more satisfaction, because I don't expect the horse to
win. There are some others I've heard off. But that's another story.

Alex

apart from trying hard to make some cash, there are a couple of silly ones i go for by name. small stakes of course,   anything to do with ben after my son benjamin, his pocket money jar takes any profit and i take the losses like you do with little people! he doesnt know the source of any extra  pennies...too young.       luckily the name jack does quite well at present and many variations too. jac the legend didnt turn up today tho!    why jack? the youngest of 4   cats is the naughtiest cat and most efficient food stealer ever. his name>>>>captain jack sparrow the pop up pocket pirate...... yes for real!!   any winnings go in the vet fund for all four moggies......hope nothing serious happens!

This one is not horses, but still interesting...

I don't know if this will interest you Paul but in the days of sitting in

the bookies from 12-5 every day about 20 years ago this oul lad showed me
this crazy system on the dogs
So most times of the day you have 2 dog meetings running watch the results
from the first race onwards remembering that 7 is your prime number
So let's say I.e hackneys first race is won by trap 1 the next race you
will back tr.6 as 1+6 =7
Loser ? So let's say tr.2 won this paticular race your next bet would be
tr.5 as 2+5=7
Check the results on any given day and you will find this pattern emerging
especially when it's tr3 and tr4 across most dog meetings daily

Paul I was also going to mention to you about when the rich

Arabs are naming there horses anything with 3 A's in the name is normally a
good one

Thank you for those, actually, someone once said to me that you should back a horse who "dumps their dinner", just before the off.

Please feel free to leave your own comments, and you never know, you may find a Starting Point to find profit...

Paul.

Great reading, I agree with the greyhound comment, the 7 system, check it out, it comes in! My friend G would always no 5 if it was a grey and the last horse in the last race!
